What we thought was a good fight by Governor Obaseki is becoming a fading glimmer of hope as the APC National Working Committee is perfecting plans with direct primary to trample on his political career just like the party did to Ambode of Lagos State. However, I am not surprised it’s turning this way; APC has never pretended it has any democratic sentiments, it was hatched to fulfill some political orgies, not basically to better the lot of the people.
When the altercation started, the people of Edo State prevailed on Governor Obaseki to ditch APC so he could team up with PDP to avoid what was courted as the Ambode Treatment. As a political neophyte, he refused and went on laughing that Edo is not Lagos. The people wanted to team up with him in PDP to chase the bald head away from town, but he naively refused hoping to fight a war that was not his. Today, unfortunately, Edo is gradually becoming Lagos.
Like I told someone, as soon as a politician start asking “what did I do wrong?” just be sure that defeatist question is his last straw. What did I do wrong? is a moral question, politics in APC seem to have a gulf between it and morals.
The purpose of the Direct Primary being proposed and adopted by the APC National Working Committee is for a simple purpose; conduct election, rig and manipulate results in favour of Oshiomole’s boy; one of the most hated traversing political troubadours and bandits in the history of the state. The results will be sent in from Abuja, unlike indirect primary that could go anyway if conducted in the open. The risk would be too much for Oshiomole to take.
Ambode could not save himself from the wiles and darts of APC even when he took his clean political slate to Buhari asking “what did I do?” But Obaseki did not learn from it. He felt he knew some top corrupt persons in the presidency that could help him fight Oshiomole and turn the tide in his favour. Unfortunately, APC does not have a leader in the president. A president that looks idle while the country goes to waste, what is his business with APC that was just his stepping stone to grab power? He does not even know what APC stands for. So he cannot help Obaseki or anyone as it stands. He hardly can help himself up if he sits to pray.
Obaseki however have a lifeline: He will loose but can work with PDP to stop these jackals and wolves that are ready to devour the state. If Obaseki was ever genuine to stopping these sects of initiates, the time is now. He should team up with PDP who have good intentions for the development of the state to stop the curious advances of these packs of wolves.
If Obaseki fails to do the needful now that his political fall is days away, Oshiomole and his boys will be very brutal and ruthless in dancing over his political ruin. They will trample over him as people do over the ruins of an arch enemy, and in victory. PDP is saturated with good candidates to govern Edo State; the like of Rt. Hon. Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, the PDP foremost aspirant. However, Obaseki can still help play a key role to see Oshiomole and his gang of rebels don’t come to power as PDP is poised to restore peace and tranquility back to the state.
