In view on a possible disqualification of Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State from contesting the primary election by the national working committee of All Progressives Congress (APC), the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has expressed plan to woo the governor to its party, as its flag bearer in the forthcoming gubernatorial election.
Honourable Collins Oreruan, Edo State chairman of SDP, told DAILY INDEPENDENT on Friday that the party was meeting to see the possibility of convincing the Edo State number one citizen to be its party flagbearer ahead of the election in November if his chance of contesting under his party failed.
“We have just risen from a meeting, where we listened to the press conference presided by Adams Oshiomhole, the national chairman of APC. The decision of the ruling APC has not been made official, though. We hope to reach out to Obaseki as soon as the coast is clear, on the possibility of coming onboard our platform” he said.
Responding to the issue of possible crisis in his party, considering the fact that there were aspirants already on ground in his party, Oreruan, said that election of that magnitude cost a lot of money, stressing that his party had an understanding with the aspirants abinitio and there would be no cause for concern since everybody would be carried along.
“The aspirants are aware of our plan. We already have an understanding of them before this time. You know that elections are capital intensive, especially governorship election. They would not have a problem with any decision we take concerning getting Obaseki to come to contest on SDP platform” he said.
