HARIS (INT) GALUP POLLS: The APC is in a panic mood over the results of opinion poll they secretly commissioned over the week. The results which have a margin of error of + or -3% due to poll size indicated that if the elections were held today, Obaseki will defeat Ize Iyamu in the three Senatorial Zones.
In Edo South Obaseki won 74% of the votes to Ize Iyamu 23%. In Edo Central, Obaseki got 85% and Ize Iyamu 13%. Edo North was a close race with Obaseki receiving 52% to 45% for Ize Iyamu.
In analysing the results, a number of factors which influenced the outcome were considered eg, 1)Trust/Integrity, 2)Economic Development, 3) Security, 4)Payment of pension/salaries, 5)2024 Gubernatorial zoning to Edo Central, 6) Alignment with South-South to pursue Zonal interests 7)Experience and need to complete ongoing projects.
There were substantial sympathy votes for Obaseki arising from perceived injustice done to him by APC through baseless disqualification for refusal to loot the treasury.
There were also protest votes against the APC for alleged interference with the process by external powerful godfather.
A second and final poll will be conducted in August but no substantial deviation from the above scenario is envisaged because of the factors of Trust, Integrity, 2024 zoning and Economic development which impacted negatively on the APC candidate.
