The Independent National Electoral Commission (INCE) has been instructed to withdraw the certificate of return issued the 14 State of Assembly lawmakers in Edo State for improper swearing-in.
The National Coordinator of People’s Democratic Party Coalition Dr. Emeka Kali, said that the lawmakers who were alleged to have met in a private residence and suspended the lawmakers who were duly sworn-in by Mr. Godwin Obaseki, the Governor of Edo State, including the Speaker should not be allowed to continue to represent their constituencies.
He lamented that All Progressives Congress (APC) had turned democracy and rule of law into highest bidders’ affair at the expense of the masses, stressing that the party had made nonsense of democratic process in their desperation and display of federal might.
He specifically accused former National Chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole of fomenting crisis in the state after losing power at the centre.
“…Even if it means bringing down the Peace of Edo State to stay afloat. This manner of political bitterness must be condemned intoto, while we count on INEC to help checkmate this impunity.
“The business of Edo State Assembly cannot be conducted in any man’s kitchen. We need to do the right thing to prevent the looming danger of APC calculated anarchy intent to be loose upon a peaceful state.”
Kalu also castigated Mr. Muhammed Adamu, the Inspector General of Police for sending out troop of policemen to take over the Assembly, alleging that this may be with the intent to help Oshiohmhole’s lawmakers to meet and possibly impeach the governor.
He emphasised that this was capable of plunging Edo State into deeper political crisis, stressing that the party expected the authority to stand for peace, rather than take sides in the ongoing imbroglio in the state.
