Rt.Hon. Okiye mourns death of ex-Speaker of Edo Assembly, Rt. Hon. Zakawanu Garuba
The Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Frank Okiye has mourned the passing of former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Zakawanu Garuba.
In a statement issued this morning, the Speaker said
“I received with grieving heart, the shocking news of the demise of Rt. Hon. Zakawanu Garuba, former Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly who died yesterday after a short illness”.
“His death is a great loss to all of us and it has created a vacuum not only to his immediate families but to the entire people of Edo State”.
“Indeed, he’ll be remembered for his honesty, patience, and perseverance as some of his attributes.
“He left an indelible mark of uncommon leadership in the Edo State House of Assembly as the former Speaker, which culminated in the passage of bills and Resolutions that has transformed the State”
We pray that God grants his family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,” he added.
Rt. Hon. Garuba was elected into the Edo State House of Assembly in 2003, on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
While in the House, he served as chairman of the House committee on judiciary, human rights, and legal matters. He became Speaker in 2007.
