Nigeria is a Democracy, culturally, and traditionally. Overtime, I have stated in several of my writings that the origin of Democracy is Africa from which Western Democracy has its root. Democracy culturally speaking is Eletso, meaning the good life. Good life encompasses all that Western Democracy describes as government of the people, by the people and for the people. Eletso will ever remain on this Earth in accordance with the people of every language, culture and social outlook. For this reason, most constitutions of modern polities including Nigeria have it that the participation by the people in their government is a provision that is ensured. In other words, there is a provision in the Nigerian Constitution that states, “the participation by the people in their government shall be ensured in accordance with the provisions of this Constitution.” Why are Nigerians un-responsive and unavailable to the needs of the time?
Are Nigerians under a spell? Are the people, the indigenous Nigerians that own the Land called Nigeria, victims of some Spells conducted by Fulani clerics?
Informed sources in the North of Nigeria have had it that some Islamic clerics of Fulani extraction have been performing sacrifices that included the burying of giant whole live rams, sheep and goats in favour of the Cabal and Aso Rock. Are such sacrifices or spells having their tolling effect on Nigerians; do such rituals or sacrifices and spells have powers, and if they do not, what is responsible for the inactive political behaviour of Nigerians in the Buhari era, in Nigeria?
This author is aware that some southerners, many of who are believers in the Christian teachings of the Scripture would cast doubts on many of such things that are invisible to their naked eyes, untrained or uncultured Minds. They are quick to dismiss many stories of actual events, happenings and thoughts that are brought to their attention for reflection and consideration as conspiracies and fake news in ignorance. We are also aware that the Bible and the Koran are from the same one source, yet the Islamists and Jihadists make use of the Islamic Holy Book, the Koran differently from the way the Christians’ Holy Book, the Bible is used by many Christian believers, if they at all do. We however know that most Christians in Nigeria are prayer addicted as they do conduct prayers which we also know as a layman’s tools. There are certain situations and conditions that call for sacrifice in many forms and kinds in our world.
Whether many southern Christians understand the workings or powers of the invisible world or not, this author is aware and understand that the traditionalists, the Africanist and the “wise ones”, which we know and refer to as Witches and Wizards of our land with their crafts, understand some of those things that others do not. All people are not equally endowed arcane knowledge-wise. As an African, this author is aware that Africans live in two worlds, visible and the invisible; it is an important reason for which Africans cannot afford to turn their back on the ancestors in the invisible world without serious consequence as can be seen now.
For the avoidance of doubt, it is very important that our Nigerians know that the knowledge of the Witch (Ogbhor, singular and plural, Egbhor, in Etsako) is a craft meaning special skill, strength, power, art or dexterity of the individual with such ability. The practice of the Craft was the Religion of Ancient Africans before the coming of the Imperialist and their iconoclast, the Church. In “The Element Encyclopedia of Witchcraft”, Judika Illes, precisely defines witchcraft as the craft of the wise. Also, Raymond Buckland had equally proposed a definition that is not included in the dictionary; he explains witchcraft as “an ancient Pagan religion with a belief in both male and female deities, with a reverence for nature and all life, and recognition of a need for fertility among plants, animals and humans.
However this author had propounded and contested, and many are now in agreement that Paganism never existed in Africa; witchcraft was the Religion of ancient Africans. The word “witchcraft” which is Ogbhor (Etsako) was a construct of the Church. In Europe, Witches and Wizards were persecuted, and many were burnt alive. Most ethnicities have a name for witchcraft. It was the persecution that the iconoclasts extended to their colonies in Africa. This was how the crafts of the Witches and Wizards were driven underground to the underworld to this day and age. This was how Africans lost the benefits of the wisdom of the wise ones in Africa while in Europe and the West such benefits are now harnessed for the good of their societies. We need to know why Nigerians are not at peace and are silent about the killings of Nigerians and the fraudulent land grabbing, all by the Fulani.
The current mass silence of not reacting to conditions is unholy; the lack of mass peaceful protests or demonstrations by Nigerians, amount to none participation in the politics and government of the people. This is happening in spite of all that have been going on wrong, and are still continuing unabated or un-mitigated by government or the people in a political democracy. The kind of mass silence is criminal as it is detrimental to the lives of Nigerians, the Land, culture, and to our race, as Africans. It is not natural to find Nigerians dumb founded during times like we are in now, therefore, this exercise here is calling on all Traditional Rulers, who should not have been politically sidelined in our polity and the traditionalists, to seriously investigate with the aid of our traditional tools, the Ifa or Oracle to find out why have Nigerians become docile in the face of undeserving hostility mounted by Fulani, strangers to our land.
Upon all of the atrocities which include the wanton killings of Nigerians at will by Fulani herdsmen; the corruption and looting of our treasuries, the defilement of the rule of law by those who were supposed to be responsible for their preservation, our parliamentarians; yet, Nigerians are silent. Buhari has violated all of the major relevant provisions of our Constitution and Nigerians are quiet. In spite of the untold hardship at all levels, social and economic, brought about by all the aberrations stated here, Nigerians in Nigeria and elsewhere have remained unperturbed and they are silent. The question is WHY?
Article 14 (3) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria states that “The composition of the Government of the Federation or any of its agencies and the conduct of its affairs shall be carried out in such a manner as to reflect the federal character of Nigeria and the need to promote national unity, and also to command national royalty, thereby ensuring that there shall be no predominance of persons from a few State or from a few ethnic or other sectional groups in that Government or in any of its agencies.” This provision alone and many others bridged, are completely in violation by President Buhari who had made sure with impunity that every major and minor organs of government are headed by a Fulani which is Buhai’s own ethnic group.
These aberrations are unacceptable in a democratic political dispensation. To Nigerians, this is unacceptable in our cultural political order. Therefore, this exercise here is an urgent call on the Traditional Rulers of Nigeria, the traditionalists, the witches and wizards of our country (the “wise ones”, according to the Russians) and the Nigerian peoples to get up and rescue Nigeria from the grips or claws of the Fulani cabal in our country. They are our strangers.
The Traditional Rulers as the custodians of the people’s culture, traditions and customs and the traditionalist, i.e. the non Christians and non Moslems which include the wise ones, the Witches and Wizards of our country, have a need to not shirk their responsibility on Nigeria. Nigeria needs its people at this time to save the country. The need for proper traditional Ifa or Oracle investigation, to find out from our ancestors in the invisible world why Nigerians’ able bodied; men and women of our country have remain unmoved.
The practices of the craft of the Witches and Wizards of our land were the traditional religion in our land until the advent of foreign religions that condemned the knowledge of the craft as devilish, owing to their ignorance and jealousy. Our culture, our way of life and traditions were so mystical and esoteric to them that they saw these African Spiritual qualities as a threat to the survival of their materialistic worldview to the extent that how to destroy our culture was their first major goal and they are almost succeeding. This can be seen in Lord Macaulay’s address to the British Parliament on February 2, 1835 when he said:
“I have travelled across the length and breadth of Africa and I have not seen one person who is a thief such wealth I have seen in this country, such high moral values, people of such caliber, that I do not think we would ever conquer this country, unless we break the very backbone of this nation, which is her spiritual and cultural heritage and therefore, I propose that we replace her old and ancient education system, her culture, for if the Africans think that all that is foreign and English is good and greater than their own, they will lose their selfesteem, their native culture and they will become what we want them, a truly dominated nation”.
In the light of the above which its facts and negative effect, are not farfetched or doubtable in our country, it is time that Nigerian Traditionalists return to themselves and do the needful traditionally. To get back to ourselves, Nigerians must participate in the political process by voting in all elections, be in touch with government and their functionaries, know what they are doing; ask questions, if you are not satisfied, protest and demonstrate en-mass peacefully. These are the beauties of Democracy and one of the major ways by which the people are able to regain the power that belongs to the people in political Democracy. We cannot afford to continue to run away from ourselves and what we are, Africans whose wisdom and Spiritual culture predates all cultures. Let us consult Ifa, (Oracle) and the Deities of our Land over what Nigerians are going through without the will, seemingly, to confront the challenges, at least, with protests and mass demonstrations. Finally, let us embrace the wise ones our Egbhor, to join us in our desire to put the Fulani at bay where they belong as our strangers who have no inherent right to our land in Nigeria.
